Sara's Story

Sara (37) was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in July 2018.

Meet Sara, she has undergone surgery to remove the affected tissue and lymph nodes and began chemotherapy in October. She receives treatment every 2 weeks and it is expected to continue for 2 years.

Sara and her husband are parents to an 18 and 16-year old. Sara is still employed full-time, for the family to stay on top of their bills. She explained that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to pay their regular bills, as their medical insurance deductible and out-of-pocket requirements are extremely high. Even after those requirements are met – their insurance does not fully cover her chemotherapy treatments, so they still incur thousands of dollars in medical expenses every month. Her and her husband are looking at getting second jobs in order to cover the medical bills.
