Dominic's Story

Dominic (5) was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) in July 2017.

JMML is a serious and rare malignancy (1-2% of all leukemias) with a very poor prognosis. There is no cure for patients other than stem cell/bone marrow transplantation, as chemotherapy is not usually effective.

In October, Dominic began chemotherapy in preparation for his bone marrow transplant, followed by the transplant in November. Dominic ended up spending Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s – totaling over 100 DAYS – in Children’s Hospital receiving treatment.

How We Helped

Due to this extended hospitalization, Angels of Hope helped Dominic and his mother with the holidays, rent, utilities and their car payment for 5 months.
