Bernadette and Brent Joyce are the proud parents of three children – Anthony (12), Emma (6) and Noah (4). The family lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
As Bernadette shared with Angels of Hope, in June of 2016 their daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor (cancer of the kidney). The shock of the diagnosis hit the family hard and Emma began treatment immediately.
Bernadette is a full-time college student working hard towards a degree and also holding a part-time job to contribute to the family income. However, since Emma’s diagnosis Bernadette has been unable to return to work. The family is surviving on Brent’s income only. An unexpected car repair of over $2,500 has put a huge financial strain on their budget but it is necessary for the family to have two cars to function since Brent drives for work and Bernadette must get her children to and from school and get Emma to treatments. As a mom, Bernadette worries about paying the bills but also is hopeful that they will be able to provide a modest birthday celebration for both Emma and Anthony whose birthdays are coming soon.
Angels of Hope is happy to be able to assist the Joyce family with some of their basic living expenses during this stressful time so that Bernadette can continue to care for Emma and the other children.
