Ellen Zerilli has been married to her high school sweetheart, Joe, for 30 years. They have a teenage son, Nicholas (16). The family lives in Macomb, Michigan.
In May the family was preparing to go on a camping trip for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. A nagging cough and random chest pain prompted Ellen to see the doctor before leaving for their trip so that she could start an antibiotic and, hopefully, feel better to enjoy the weekend.
The doctor did an x-ray and found a mass in Ellen’s lung. The following day a CT scan was performed to further examine the mass. It was found to be a tumor in her lung with lymph node involvement. After the holiday weekend a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of Lymphoma. As Ellen says, she was relieved that the diagnosis was not lung cancer but still the diagnosis was terrifying and overwhelming.
Ellen is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments and, therefore, is not able to work. Her husband, Joe, is self-employed. The family is struggling financially to make ends meet during this difficult time.
Angels of Hope will be assisting the Zerilli family with the payment of some of their bills and basic living expenses so that Ellen can focus on treatments and healing.
