Cathi Sawyer is 49 years old and a single and the very proud mom of her daughter, Brooke (18). Cathi and Brooke live in Waterford, Michigan.
In June of 2015 Cathi says she found a lump in her breast. Having had her mammograms, the lump was found before the date of her next mammogram but a call to her doctor, had her quickly in for an appointment. After many grueling tests, the diagnosis was made and she was told she had breast cancer.
As Cathi shared…. telling her daughter, Brooke, the news was even more difficult than the diagnosis itself. Cathi was scheduled for additional tests to determine if the cancer had spread to any other areas. Fortunately, the cancer had not spread and Cathi and Brooke could breathe a sigh of relief. Following a mastectomy in July and complications due to the expander that was placed during surgery, Cathi would begin the grueling regimen of chemotherapy and radiation.
Cathi was proud of Brooke’s strength and ability to focus on school and maintain the household where needed during Cathi’s treatments. She continued on with treatment but due to her inability to work and lack of income, the financial strain of medical bills and other daily living expenses began to weigh heavily on Cathi’s mind and she worries that she may lose her home before she is able to work again.
Angels of Hope is proud and happy to be able to assist Cathi and Brooke with the payment of some of their living expenses allowing Cathi to focus on her treatments and healing at this time.
